Imagine an explosion of ethnic flavors and sounds at a free rooftop dance concert... or children learning about Irish dance at no charge... or easing the mind, body and spirit in a beautiful setting through the ancient art of T'ai Chi...or lectures that stimulate exciting discussion regarding past and current trends in architecture...to name a few.

Enjoy an evening of dancing and great music with friends... all at no charge! Tunes at Monona Terrace has become a Madison tradition thanks to the generous support of the Evjue Foundation, Inc., the charitable arm of The Capital Times. Themed menu specials, snacks, beer, cocktails, and soft drinks are available for purchase beginning at 5 p.m.

"Lessons from the Past"
Presented by Ron Radziner, FAIA


This lecture will feature a visual presentation of Marmol Radziner 's numerous restoration projects including the Kaufmann House originally designed by Richard Neutra in 1946, the Elliot House, originally designed by R.M. Schindler in 1930, and John Lautner's Garcia house. The lessons learned from the restoration process, as well as how restoration has influenced the firm's new designs will be explored.

Ease the stress out of your busy workday! Come enjoy the breathtaking views, cooling breezes, and soothing sounds of the fountain on the rooftop of Monona Terrace. Connect your mind and body through the fundamentals of T'ai Chi in an easy-to-learn routine. Registration available onsite. Wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes.

TERRACE TAKES
Photography Workshop
Wednesday, May 13

Monona Terrace

Monona Terrace announces a new workshop for budding photographers at the high school level! Local photography expert Zane Williams will share his talents on architectural photography in a presentation in the Lecture Hall. Then students will have the rare opportunity to shoot the many unique and picturesque aspects of Monona Terrace. Teachers may register students for $5 per person. The event is open to all high school students.

MONONA TERRACE COMMUNITY CONCERTS
Enjoy a beautiful Madison summer evening on the Monona Terrace rooftop with spectacular views of the city and Lake Monona. Feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chair; seating on the rooftop is limited. The Lake Vista Cafe will be open for your enjoyment. Picnic baskets are also welcome. Sorry, no carry-in alcohol.

Concerts on the Rooftop highlight some of the area's best music, and offer a wonderful opportunity for dancing, food and fun with family and friends! This series is sponsored in part by the Friends of Monona Terrace.

Dane Dances! is a community event created to help break down racial barriers and bring people of diverse backgrounds together for a night of FREE entertainment and dancing. There will be ethnic food vendors and cocktails available for purchase beginning at 5PM. DJ Laurie Mlatawou will perform each evening at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE - Saturday, August 1, 1PM

The annual Monona Terrace open house is your chance to participate in a free tour of one of Madison's most iconic architectural masterpieces. Tour guides will reveal how Wright's organic architecture is expressed in dramatic open spaces, circular forms, and breathtaking lake views. Tours start in the Gift Shop.

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Come to Monona Terrace on Wednesday mornings and enjoy this fun children's program. Local performers and organizations will provide entertainment, hands-on fun, and learning for children ages 4 to 8. Programs will be held on the rooftop unless otherwise indicated. In the event of inclement weather, program will be moved inside. Please call 608-261-4000 after 8:30 a.m. the day of event for program location. If transporting kids by bus, please call 608-261-4062 at least 48 hours prior to event.

PLANET TREK - Saturday, June 20, 9 AM - 12 PM
FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC

Bring your bike or walking shoes and take a free guided tour of our solar system! Planet Trek is an at-scale model of our solar system installed by UW Space Place. Your journey will begin at "The Sun," located outside Monona Terrace in Law Park, and end 23 miles down Military Ridge Trail in Mt. Horeb, home of "Pluto." Tours will leave the Monona Terrace Exhibition Hall every half hour. Leave the tour whenever you like, or take it at your own pace. (Traveling beyond Saturn will require a trail pass and can be purchased on-site)

While you wait for your journey to begin, take in the stunning exhibit, "From Earth to the Universe," in the Exhibition Hall. Over 40 amazing images will be on display including exploding stars. See what happens when two galaxies collide!
