Planning your wedding can be stressful. There are a lot of moving parts, which, in the end, all need to work together in order to make your wedding a success. A key part of your wedding is color choice. The right color coordination can make a wedding. The wrong wedding color schemes have the opposite effect.

Working with event professionals, such as the staff at Monona Terrace, will help you discover a wedding color palette that is a reflection of your personality and brings to life the setting you have dreamed of.

Let’s start with the basics.

1.)  When is your wedding? The season will have influence on the kind of palette to be used.  Wintery white? The yellows, oranges and browns of fall? Nature has already set a backdrop for your event!

2.) Where will your wedding be? For example, a yacht club would be the perfect setting for a nautical or seascape theme. A country or rural setting would allow for creative use of rustic, weathered and earthy tones.  An elegant convention center or hotel would set the scene for nearly any colors you want. In fact, event coordinators at these facilities have managed hundreds of special events and can make appropriate suggestions based on your tastes and preferences.

3.) What kind of memories do you want to be created? What kind of emotions do you want to evoke in your guests? Fiery, passionate red? The relaxation of calm, soft blue? Soft pinks and whites which depict romanticism? Or energizing, vibrant  yellow? The colors you choose will set the mood and the memories for many days after your wedding.

4.) How many colors should you use? The key is to use 3-4 colors while staying true to yourself and your soon-to-be spouse. Maybe you met on a crisp, cool, fall night and want to recapture that romance. Use dark sensual reds, burnt orange, deep browns and metallic gold to represent that night. Or impress your guests with the simple sophistication of a classic monochromatic theme. Nothing is more elegant than white on white with soft pops of colors with pink peonies or green hydrangeas.

5.) How should you incorporate the colors?  Five obvious and impactful vehicles for color at weddings are invitations, bridesmaid’s dresses, flowers, décor and cake. These elements can help elevate your theme and bring everything together elegantly. Each separately will make a bold statement, but brought together they will complete the story of your beautiful wedding day!
