Landmark- A prominent or well-known object in or feature of a particular landscape.
Neighborhood- People living in physical proximity who often share bonds of friendship and common interest.
New Urbanism- A planning movement that emphasizes walkability, increased density, mixed-use buildings, and a traditional neighborhood structure.
Plan- A drawing showing the horizontal elements of a building.
Rural Area- An area of very little development, often characterized by agricultural uses or undeveloped land.
Scale- The size of a model in proportion to the size of the actual thing.
Smartgrowth- A planning movement that responds to "sprawl" by limiting growth on undeveloped land, and refocusing a larger share of regional growth within central cities and inner suburbs.
Sprawl- Uncontained and unplanned development.
Street Furniture- Signs, benches, trash receptacles, lights, and other things "furnishing" the streets.
Suburb- An outlying part of a city.
Urban Area- An area of dense or closely placed development, often associated with a street plan made up of blocks and mixed uses.
Zone- A legal definition that restricts building types and size, enterprises, or uses (i.e. residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, parks, and recreation) within a specified area of a community.
