Classroom Learning

"The interdisciplinary nature of the materials allow you to pursue math problems one day
and civic activism the next. The Terrace Town project provided the 'vehicle' I was looking
for to ensure an entire semester of multidisciplinary study."
4th/5th Grade Teacher, Madison

Box City curriculum is the foundation for Terrace Town activities. It can be used in all grade levels and meets Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction standards in a variety of subjects including social studies, math, and art and design.

Throughout the process of designing their Box City, classes will:

  • develop visual literacy skills
  • strengthen problem-solving skills
  • forge relationships with individuals and organizations in their community

    The curriculum also gives students:

  • a sense of place as they discover the unique character of their community
  • empowerment to participate in their community to make it a quality place to live

  • Learn how to use Box City in your classroom at Teacher Workshops on October 15 or 16, 2003 at Monona Terrace. You can order the curriculum when you register.
